I have heard Duryodhana also being referred to as Suyodhana in some places... In fact, I had asked JRS when we were in Vijaya High School... for the non VHS guys, JRS was our initial class teacher(1994-97 batch) and the best Sanskrit teacher I've ever seen. He had given a complex explanation which I seem to have forgotten.
Can someone clarify ?

Nam classalle kelidda? I don't remember.. I remember this one thing.. My samskritas rusty :((.. "Keshava pathanthi, Pandavaha hasanthi, kauravaga rudanthi" or something to that effect - The only samskrita pun Ive heard :))

dhuryOdhana's actual name is suyOdhana. but because of his deeds (applicable to all his brothers) it became dhur*.* dhus*.* etc
Now ... that seems plausible... Can you give any references for that ?
tomorrow I'm meeting a Sanskrit/Pali scholar who's read every corner of the Mahabharatha (who narrated the story that I posted recently on my blog) - I'll ask him and let you know.
Pratap, I asked a scholar and he said that indeed Duryodhana was called Suyodhana, and mostly as far as he remembered only by Drithirashtra… his blind father.
my references: I just knew! (why would any parent deride their own children by keeping such names?)
