Kannada books in America!

I had ordered a book through our University Inter-Library-Loan for S.L.Bhyrappa's Bhitti. This is the heart rending autobiography of the Kendra Sahitya Academy Award winner Dr.Bhyrappa. I had read half of this in India and badly missed reading the whole book.

Finally, I managed to get it a couple of days ago. It has been shipped from another library in the North. Cool...In fact, if we live in any part of India other than Karnataka, I guess it would be much more difficult to procure Kannada books than it is here! Kudos to the American University Library system! After a really hectic week, planning to relax this weekend with this book...

Next book to read : Parva (arguably his best book) by Dr.S.L.Bhyrappa

ah, thats a real nice one to hear :)

But I guess not all books are available like that there.

Maybe we should have something online where people can buy Kannada books.

S.L.B's books are real nice.

Well... Definitely not all books will be available.. But I checked out that almost all of the books by the Gnanapitha awardees, Kendra Sahitya Academy awardees and other important writers' works are available. Thats more than enough here. But I remember having discussed with you about buying books while I'm there. People who sell Kannada books here in the US try to equate the rupee to a dollar. They say that $25-35 for a Kannada book is not much.. but on a student budget, it IS for me! Till then, I will have to think about asking people coming from India/when I go to India for getting books...

correction: hard rending -> heart rending.

Anyway it looks like a book I'd like to check out, another one to add to my ToRead list (which has become quite lengthy already! :-) )

oh boy Kannada books are so inexpensive here in Bangalore, but ironically they're also pretty hard to find. The big book stores in Bangalore simply dont keep any Kannada books at all! Anyway I found a good collection in Sapna (near Bashyam Circle, Sadhashivnagar).

Long time since I have been on your blog.
Very good to know that someone enjoys reading kannada books - it is so rare to find people doing that.
I have Bitthi a home, but havn't read any of Byrappa's books - only Triveni and M.K.Indra.
Your blog has made me venture into Byrappa's books... Thanks!

That's too cool! I am so glad you can get Kannada books out there. And yes, like your comment on my blog, its only when we feel the dearth of Kannadigas that we get attracted towards our language and start reading books :)
